What is the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)?
LCPS Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) works with the school board, administrators, parents and teachers who are responsible for students receiving special education services
Who are the students receiving special education services?
They are studentswho have been found eligible as a child with a disability listed below:
· Autism
· Deaf-blindness
· Deafness
· Developmental Delay
· Emotional Disability
· Hard of Hearing
· Intellectual Disability
· Multiple Disabilities
· Orthopedic Impairment
· Other health Impairment
· Specific Learning Disability
· Speech/language Impairment
· Traumatic Brain Injury
Visual Impairment (including blindness
Who serves on the committee?
We are always looking for members. Ideally, the SEAC is comprised of:
· persons with disabilities
· parents/guardians of students with disabilities
· private/public/county human service agency representatives
· community/civic organization representatives
· business/industry representatives
The Director of Special Education, a representative from the school board, and the Parent Resource Center, serve as consultants to the committee.
All are invited to attend SEAC meetings.
All meetings are open to the public. The SEAC welcomes anyone interested in special education. SEAC meetings offer presentations and discussions throughout the year about important LCPS programs and services. The presentations are lead by LCPS professionals and experts. There is designated time for public comment during the meeting. This is an opportunity to share successful educational experiences and express general concerns regarding educational issues for students with disabilities.
When does the SEAC meet?
The SEAC meets monthly during the school year from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
There is no meeting in December.
Unless otherwise noted, meetings are held at the LCPS Administration Building, 21000 Education Court, Ashburn, Virginia Room 102.

What is the function of the SEAC?
· to advise the local school division of unmet needs in the education of children with disabilities;
· to assist the local school division in developing plans for improving performance of children with disabilities;
· to participate in the development of priorities for meeting the identified needs of children with disabilities;
· to submit periodic reports and recommendations regarding the education of children with disabilities to the division superintendent for transmission to the local school board;
· to assist the local school division in interpreting plans to the community for meeting the special needs of children with disabilities; and
· to review the policies and procedures for the provision of special education and related services prior to submission to the local school board and the Virginia Department of Education.

How can the SEAC help you?
SEAC can help you better understand how to work with the school division and how special education meets the needs of students with disabilities.
SEAC meetings are a useful resource that enable attendees to learn more about LCPS special education programs and services as well as links to community services, agencies and programs.
SEAC encourages each Loudoun County Public School to assign a SEAC representative to serve s an important liaison to the local PTA/PTO as a resource at each individual school in support of special education needs
